The White Paper: Schools in ‘eye of the storm’ of SEND complaints?

The 'Schools Week' journal last Friday neatly summarised the impact DfE's new White paper ' Every child achieving and thriving' will have on schools supporting children in meeting the needs of all children and young people with SEND.  'ICT with Mr P' videos on FaceBook talks as a teacher about the white paper's recommendations. I recommend you watch his video on his initial reactions (the 620 comments are interesting !) and then his deeper trawl of the paper. Keep in mind this White Paper will need to go through the House of Commons and The House of Lords, so it will be subjected to scrutiny and maybe changes. As a matter of interest, the DfE has provided an explanation (blog) on its hub for parents. It states that changes to SEND provision will not occur 'overnight'. No changes to the support given by EHCPs will begin before September 2030. If you are a governor, you may find the National Governor's Association (NGA) pdf summary of use. As NGA states, These changes are expected to take effect from 2029, and all existing duties and rights of pupils with SEND will remain in place until new legislation begins.  I include the DfE diagram below which shows three tiers of support.

My initial thoughts are that the promised training of class teacher's should also include training for any (!) supporting staff and additional time should be allotted for staff to cope with the additional administration and meetings with parents. Or is that just a pipe dream? we shall see.
